A downloadable tileset

This is a basic, free-to-use tileset that anyone can use for prototyping a 2D platformer. Each tile is 16x16 and accommodates all square-based shapes (i.e., no slopes).

The download contains a PNG of the spritesheet and a TileSet resource file for any developers that use the Godot 4 engine.

This is a small little tileset I made for practice and whipped up in about two hours, as a complete novice to pixel art. No attribution is required. Just want to help fellow game developers get started with new projects :)

Install instructions

The PNG is a spritesheet. Use whatever methods you would normally use in your game dev environment to import spritesheets. The tile size is 16x16.

If you use Godot 4, you can immediately start using this tileset by adding the .tres file to your project's directory, creating a new TileMap node, then Loading or Quick Loading the resource file into the TileMap's Tile Set property. You may need to reimport the PNG spritesheet as the atlas texture for the TileSet. Collisions are all configured as squares (no rounded shapes), and the terrains are already configured for easy autotiling.

What is the license?

Thanks for asking. I've updated the metadata with the Creative Commons Zero license.

You may freely use, modify, and redistribute this tileset without any permissions or attributions necessary :)

I also recommend you to add Godot to metadata. You can read it here https://itch.io/t/2923877/setting-engine-metadata

Done! Thanks for pointing that out. I've also given an upvote to your proposal to make metadata more visible; hopefully itch.io implements it!
